Dr. Roh is co-founder of Rockford Spine Center now, The Spine Center at OrthoIllinois, and has long been dedicated to creating a comprehensive spine center that provides superior and compassionate patient care. He has special expertise in cervical spine surgery and minimally invasive surgery. As one of the select core faculty members for The Prestige® Cervical Disc, he traveled around the country teaching other surgeons this innovative disc replacement procedure. He has also lectured across the country on deformity surgery and advanced minimally-invasive techniques. Prior to co-founding Rockford Spine Center now, The Spine Center at OrthoIllinois, Dr. Roh completed the prestigious fellowship in spine surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, considered by many to be among the best training programs for spine surgery in the U.S.
Dr. Roh envisions Rockford Spine Center now, The Spine Center at OrthoIllinois as a "one-stop shop", where patients can be evaluated and treated, regardless of their spinal condition. "Spine problems are complicated and risky,’ notes Dr. Roh.“At Rockford Spine Center now, The Spine Center at OrthoIllinois we assist your primary care physician in the diagnosis and treatment of complex spine conditions. Physicians can send their patients to us, comfortable in the knowledge that we will figure things out and find a solution. Of course, many of our patients are now sent to us by former patients who were highly satisfied with their care."
Dr. Roh believes in treating patients with a combination of compassion and perfectionism. “Part of my job is to recognize the anxiety and fear that can surround spinal disorders and address the emotional as well as physical aspects of care. I also understand that if surgery is required, patients want a definitive surgical solution, with the highest chance of a successful outcome. Therefore, I pride myself on knowing the latest techniques and holding myself and my team to the highest standards. In doing so, I strive to achieve the best possible surgical result for my patients.”
Dr. Roh is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, and Scoliosis Research Society. He is currently a cabinet member and committee co-chair for the Scoliosis Research Society. And, for nine years, he has provided charitable orthopedic care at the Walter Lawson Children's Home in Loves Park, Illinois.
Dr. Roh earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Brown University, where he graduated first in his medical school class. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Columbia University in New York City. He is fluent in Spanish and enjoys skiing, golf, tennis and wine in his spare time. But most of all, he enjoys spending time and making memories with his wife and three children.
